I must admit I was apprehensive about staying in this particular Tivoli hotel due to some poor reviews, however my husband and I had a very nice relaxing stay.
It’s a unique hotel with lots of different blocks and rooms which were apparently added over the years so yes some areas need some maintenance.
We were lucky to have an upgrade to a deluxe room which was two rooms one a bedroom and the other with a sofa bed. The rooms were modern and clean and had plenty of storage space, more than most hotels I’ve stayed at. Large bathroom with a very good shower although it could be improved with more shelf storage for toiletries. The balcony had seen better days with some cracked tiles but it was too cold and windy to sit out ( mid February)
We really like the restaurant for the breakfast buffet which wonderful and we also ate one night in the hotel restaurant which was very nice, good food and wine and not too expensive.
We enjoyed drinks in the relaxing bar area and took advantage of the free drinks voucher, beer or house wine or soft drink if you decline room service that day.
One of the best features of the Tivoli Lagos hotel is its location in the centre of the town. Lots of bars and restaurants in walking distance and a short walk to the marina and bars and restaurants there.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and I would happily stay there again.

This is an old hotel that could do with some TLC. The rooms can be on the small side, but be aware that this place is a rabbit warren and you need to be taken to your room aftwr check in otherwise you will waste time finding it! The reason for this is its built into a hillside, it was a good 5 minutes from out room to reception via a lift and a long, long corridor. Room.was adequate with a small balcony and a noisyish aircon unit.
The staff were great, the breakfast was sumptious, best go before 0800 to beat the golf crowd.
There is a bar on the first floor with a large projection screen for watching sports, it is well used of an evening. There is a resturaunt in the hotel but given the numeous eateries nearby we didn't use it. There is an Irish pub and an Indian resturaunt within walking distance if needs must.
Local cuisine abounds however and when in Portugal...
I was there in November and it was wet, there were no additional drying facilites offered for walkers or Golfers, an opportunity missed for the Hotel I think, just their regular laundry service for clothes and nothing for walking boots or shoes.
There is a resort of sorts there with a pool and sun loungers. I would go back again but not in High season.

This resort is so nice! I was a little concerned originally when booking because some recent negative reviews, but we had the best time! It deserves a lot more than the current 4.0 rating.
Yes while the hotel is showing its age a little, it feels super cosy and the rooms were lovely and clean. The outdoor pool area is gorgeous and the poolside bar has a great cocktail selection and good prices. All the staff were helpful, welcoming and friendly.
The breakfast offering was amazing! So many choices and everything was delicious.
There is a massive free car park and a paid underground car park within a short walk.
Overall 10/10, can’t wait to come back and visit again. Thank you 🙏

Jet 2 holiday.
My first visit, but friends had stayed before, so I wasn't put off by the negative reviews.
We had a standard excell room on the fourth floor ( maybe because my friend had stayed before and had another booking) with a view over the rooftops towards the marina.
The room was fine. Clean, serviced daily, nice bathroom with bath, air conditioning, complimentary water, mini bar, good wardrobe space and a private balcony.
Superior rooms have hot drink facilities.
Breakfast was excellent, although the hot food could be hotter. Bucks fizz was a nice touch.
Good pool, which was very chilly, and sunbathing area, towels provided.
Staff were all friendly and helpful.
We were delighted that on our last day with a 7.30 am pick up, we were able to have some breakfast at 7am.
I can understand why rooms at the front of the hotel could be noisy , as the hotel attracts groups of golfers.
The hotel is also popular with Americans, who can be noisy.
A very nice 5 night stay and I'd definitely go again.
I almost forgot, the location is ideal, close to the marina, bars and restaurants and a short walk to the old town

I've spent many wonderful weeks at the Tivoli and look forward to returning soon.
PROS: Staff - the reason guests return year after year. The entire staff (reception, food service, housekeeping, bartenders) are polite, helpful and friendly. They treat you like family.
Hotel: While aged and in need of upgrades, the classic Moorish design features are a delight to be treasured.
Bar: Perhaps the best in Lagos. Experienced bartenders and extensive drink selections (my favorite place :)
Room & Bed: My room is comfortable, has a great view and a shower to die for.
Value: The favorable room rates (at least in the off season) overshadow minor maintenance issues.
CONS: Food - the breakfast buffet has ample options to satisfy any tastes but the quality is lacking. I can't recommend the dinner buffet or Italian restaurant.
Maintenance: Could be improved but not a major downside.
Misc: A personal issue for me is the repetitive loop of holiday music in the bar can be irritating. Also, the TV is ancient technology that needs to be replaced.
The Tivoli Lagos is a great place to stay while visiting the Algarve and you'll be very happy with the choice.
